Sigmund Bothmann was born in Regensburg, Germany in 1964. He was a pupil of the Musical High School of the Regensburger Domspatzen, a famous German boys´choir, and there he was given a throrough basic musical education. As a member of that choir he participated in concert tours as well as in TV shows and recording productions.
After highly successful performances as an organist he continued his musical education after leaving school by undergoing a training as choirmaster and conductor under Professor Alexander Wagner, followed by organ studies under Professor Gerhard Weinberger at the Detmold Musical Academy.
Bothmann passed his exams as an artist with excellent results. In his concert exam Bothmann achieved superb results as well.
In 1991 he won the second prize in the International Johann-Pachelbel-Competition in Nuremberg, as well as the special audience prize.
During his musical studies Bothmann won scholarships of the Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes (German Foundation for Excellence in Studies), The Excellence Foundation of Northrhine-Westfalia, and of the Yamaha-Foundation.
After passing the A-level exam as a church musical director in Detmold, Sigmund Bothman was given the position as first full-time musical director of the Protestant Garrison Church of Augustdorf in 1989. He changed to neighbouring Gütersloh in 1992, where he worked in a similar position for the Protestant church of that town.
He is the artistic director of the Bachchor Gütersloh (Gütersloh Bach Choir) (www.bachchor-gt.de) and founder of the Bach Orchestra of Gütersloh.
As a lecturer and teacher Bothmann works at the Northrhine-Westfalian Musical Academy in Heek/ Nienborg. At the Detmold Musical Academy he was in charge of the subjects choir conducting, voice training for choir members and leading children´s choirs from 2004 to 2009.
With his Bachchor Gütersloh Bothmann won the third prize in 1998 at the German Choir Competition in Regensburg, with his Choralsingschule Gütersloh, a children´s choir of the Protestant church of Gütersloh, he won first prizes both in 2002 and 2005 on the level of Northrhine-Westfalia and a third prize at the national level of Germany in 2006.
For his achievements in the field of church music Sigmund Bothmann was awarded the title of “Kirchenmusikdirektor” – (Director of Church Music) in 2004. In cooperation with Ernst Leopold Schmidt Sigmund Bothmann is the artistic director of the Knabenchor Gütersloh (Gütersloh Boys Choir). (www.knabenchor-gt.de)
